The human back is an intricate structure of interconnected and overlapping elements like tendons, muscles and other soft tissues, highly sensitive nerves and nerve roots that travel from the lower back down into the legs and feet, small and complex joints as well as spinal discs with their gelatinous inner cores. Any irritation or problem with any of these structures can cause back pain.

Back pain is a common problem that affects most people at some point in their life. It can be triggered by bad posture while sitting or standing, bending awkwardly or lifting something incorrectly. It is generally not caused due to some serious condition and in most cases it gets better within 8-10 weeks.

Treatment in Ayurveda is to bring the vitiated dosha back to the state of equilibrium and thereby to the state of health. The following ayurvedic herbs are found to be very beneficial in treating all kinds of back pain.

Haridra: It has possible anti-inflammatory properties which may be beneficial for you if you have back pain. The anti-inflammatory effects of Curumin, an active ingredient in Haridra, have also shown that it may decrease inflammation caused due to arthritis.

A gentle massage with various ayurvedic oils can help revive muscles, relieve accumulated tension and waste in muscles, and also help blood vessels open up and get better flow to painful muscles.
